Picking up or dropping off import containers at alternative depots reduces CO₂ emissions and avoids unnecessary kilometers, but it's not easy to calculate what distance or emissions have been avoided. We have some tool that can help you with this exercise.

To start calculating your savings you can add the following details when submitting a depot change request:

Drop-off

  • Original and desired drop-off depot
  • Unload location where are you unloading the container right after import, before returning it empty
  • Next stop location - where are you going after dropping off the container? Providing this, our platform will show you drop-off alternatives on your route.

Pick-up

  • Original and desired pick-up depot
  • Start location - where are you right now? What is the stop before going to the pickup location? Providing this option will show you drop-off alternatives on your route.
  • Load location - where will you load the picked-up container for export

We use these locations to calculate your company's savings. We are not sharing these specific location details with anyone else.

In the examples below this would show you the following:

  • The alternative drop‑off location reduces the total truck trip by 246 km, saving about 2  hours and 25 minutes of transport time. This shorter route also avoids approximately 77.62 kg of CO₂:

  • The alternative pick-up location reduces the total truck trip by 202 km, saving about 1 hour and 54 minutes of transport time. This shorter route also avoids approximately 63.7 kg of CO₂:

You can retrieve your estimated savings in 2 ways:

  • View them on the platform
  • Export the data via the export functionality:

The exported file will contain extra columns with your savings:
